O Marco dos Navios (1769-1837): documentos do Arquivo Municipal de Lisboa

In this Documenta, we present a set of documents that were produced for the purposes of controlling and paying the Marco dos Navios (tonnage duties) imposed in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, in the period broadly corresponding to the creation and extinction of the Royal Treasury (Erário Régio, 1761-1833). Distributed and classified into four series, belonging to the “Taxes” section of the Lisbon Municipal Council’s archives, this documentation consists of almost two hundred books, with handwritten data relating to the movements of vessels and goods at the port of Lisbon between 1769 and 1837.
